《渴望之書》宣傳短片: 《我再度醒來的這個早晨》(This Moring I Woke Up Again)


一樣是因為 "文明四" 拖稿到現在. 這個月看了很多場表演, 明天和大後天各還有一場, 所以趕緊清一下記憶的庫存...

Mar 8 (日) 19:30@音樂廳 菲利浦‧格拉斯&李歐納‧柯恩《渴望之書》

格拉斯 (Phillip Glass) 是二十世紀美國音樂極簡主義 (minimalism) 的先驅. 不過我在去年以前對他的音樂完全陌生, 直到有機會去看了下面這部紀錄片:

藍祖蔚談紀錄片《菲利普．葛拉斯十二樂章》(Glass: A Portrait of Philip in Twelve Parts)

發現這位作曲家, 以及跟他在同一個時代, 一同堅持前衛曲風的藝術家, 都十分的有趣. 他在電影音樂中尤其出名, 下面是他的成名作.


里吉歐 (Godfrey Reggio) 的紀錄片「生命三部曲」首部曲〈機械生活〉(Life out of balance, 1983), 與葛拉斯的配樂.


更讓我驚訝的是, 他也參與了我最愛的電影之一的配樂:

這次的演出, 是葛拉斯對詩的初步創作嘗試. 為了切入這陌生的領域, 葛拉斯選擇了他熟悉的英文, 改編兼具詩人和音樂家身分的柯恩, 新出版的詩集《渴望之書》. (要注意的是, 柯恩的詩和繪圖被大量引用, 但他的搖滾樂元素並沒有出現在葛拉斯這部作品中.)

現場沒有中文翻譯, 只能從標題猜出將要表達的內容. 我還滿喜歡第一個大合唱高潮, 講納粹跟猶太人的 "Puppet":

現場的演出相當精采, 充滿重複旋律的不中斷110分鐘卻不乏味, 爆滿的觀眾席也相當的有耐心. 我基本上蠻同意 這個英文連結 的評論. (格拉斯有專屬的樂團, 所以演出者都是一樣的.) 大提琴吃重的演出, 不但成功塑造整部作品的基調, 自己的獨奏旋律也是不遑多讓的精采. 四位獨唱家除了男高音音色過於 "空靈", 都很適當地將柯恩的詞境, 以 "現代清唱劇" 的方式演繹出來, 四位的合唱橋段尤其絲絲入扣.
